1st Partnership with Reality TV Star Lauren Conrad

admin | Season 1 | Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

EW YORK, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ — mark, the boutique beauty and fashion brand from Avon announced today it has partnered with Lauren Conrad, star of the MTV show The Hills.

In her new role, Lauren Conrad (better known as LC) will partner with mark, and collaborate in both beauty and fashion initiatives. Lauren will be featured in the brand’s magalog (a combination magazine and catalog reaching over six million customers every month), and in the online community. Future plans include the development of exclusive co-branded items that will be available through mark Representatives, in the magalog and online at www.meetmark.com.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Lauren — a young woman who is making her mark in the world,” said Claudia Poccia, Global President of mark. “As an aspiring fashion designer and talented young woman, Lauren is a perfect fit for our mark brand. We have a shared love of makeup, fashion and the expression of personal style, and so we are excited about the future together.”

“I’ve been a mark fan since it launched and I look forward to collaborating with mark on future products as I realize my own dream of becoming a fashion designer,” said Lauren. “My parents taught me that I can do anything I want to and to never give up — to me that is what mark is all about, helping young women realize their dreams.”

About Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad was an average senior in 2004 when she was approached by MTV to appear in a reality show titled “Laguna Beach.” Little did she know the show would become a hit and Lauren the “it” girl on MTV. In the fall of 2005 MTV announced THE HILLS, a spin-off show that would continue to track Lauren as she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in fashion. Now in its second season THE HILLS follows Lauren as she attends classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and as she climbs the ranks at the fashion magazine Teen Vogue.

A Second Life for MTV

admin | Season 1 | Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

It used to be the last word in youth culture. Now MTV is more about reality shows than rock stars. Can a virtual world of 3-D avatars help the network get its groove back?

This article from Wired has some great insight!

Lounging by a bright blue pool, Kyndra and Cami, stars of MTV’s hit reality show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, chat with a bunch of other teenagers. Kyndra’s white bikini shows off an artificially enhanced figure, while Cami’s dark skin glows against an unnaturally bright blue sky. This is Laguna Beach, after a fashion, but it isn’t the TV show. It’s a live appearance, a chance for the show’s bitchiest characters to hang with some of the 2 million viewers who tune in to their breakups and hookups every Wednesday night. As the pool fills up with fans, someone asks why the girls are always so mean to fellow cast member Tessa. Kyndra shrugs: “We just don’t like her personally.” Cami can’t be bothered to answer; she’s busy tongue wrestling with some hipster dude in sunglasses.

Kyndra and Cami are kind of fake—and not just in the catty teenage sense of the word. The two girls by the pool are computerized 3-D replicas of the cast members, who are using mouse and keyboard to navigate their avatars through a multiplayer online environment known as Virtual Laguna Beach. Anyone with a PC and a broadband connection can join them.

You want your MTV? These days, that means going virtual.

MTV is venturing from “Laguna Beach” to “The Hills”

admin | Season 1 | Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - MTV is venturing from “Laguna Beach” to “The Hills” with the launch of a second virtual online community based on one of the lifestyle network’s TV shows.

“Virtual Hills” (http://www.virtualhills.mtv.com) will replicate the Hollywood world that “Hills” cast members inhabit while allowing viewers to re-create their own virtual reality, meet other fans and associate with the cast, which for the first time will be involved in curating the experience online.

The show’s cast members will guide fans in creating their “in-world” story arcs and virtual experiences. For instance, the show’s Lauren Conrad, with the assistance of her friend Whitney, will launch a fashion challenge, while fellow gal pal Audrina will host concert events. The show’s talent will be represented as their own avatars inside the virtual reality.

MTV’s first virtual reality community, “Virtual Laguna Beach”, launched in September, and has 350,000 registered users, according to Matt Bostwick, senior VP franchise development at MTV Networks Music Group.

Made in conjunction with the producers of MTV’s “Laguna Beach,” “Paradise City” is a Las Vegas-set reality series

admin | Season 1 | Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Seacrest visited the Television Critics Association January TV Tour late last week not to preview “Idol’s” restart, but rather to promote an upcoming series he’s co-producing for the cable network E!

Made in conjunction with the producers of MTV’s “Laguna Beach,” “Paradise City” is a Las Vegas-set reality series that will, in the words of some overcaffeinated publicist somewhere, “take viewers beyond the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip and into the real-life drama and excitement of up-and-coming Vegas dreamers whose lives intersect at the luxurious pools by day and behind the velvet ropes of the sizzling nightclubs by night.”

Ten West has a beach vibe

admin | Season 1 | Friday, January 12th, 2007

By ROBERT KINSLER
Special to the Register

There has always been something about the sea that inspires musicians.

From the sea chanteys that predate recorded music to the influential sounds of the Beach Boys and Dick Dale, songwriters and instrumentalists have tapped into the mighty power and hypnotic calm of the ocean to create their best work.

Ten West is the latest Orange County-based band to use the vibe of life along the Pacific to connect with an audience. The band, which recently released its self-titled debut on Blue Label Records, will headline a show celebrating the new season of MTV’s “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” at the House of Blues in Anaheim on Sunday night. Cast members from the show will be at the concert, and Huntington Beach-based 7K will also perform.

Ten West’s first single, “Amazing,” sounds like something that might have been written if Dave Matthews and John Mayer got together for a seaside songwriting session. But it was actually penned by 19-year-old Ten West guitarist Josh Itano. “You shouldn’t look at life like a glass half-empty,” Itano said in a phone interview last weekend. “I want to look at life as a great thing.”

In addition to Itano, Ten West features lead singer-songwriter Jon Ogden, bassist Alex Balderston and drummer Sam Brawner. The quartet’s rise has been fast. Since Itano and Ogden first began writing and playing together in October 2005, the acoustic duo has grown to a four-member rock band that was signed to Blue Label Records – a venture founded in 2006 by producer-musician Ronnie King and Ten West manager Sean Couevas. King is kind of like a modern-day Billy Preston, having played with the mainstream likes of Mariah Carey, KC & JoJo, rap and hip-hop stars (2Pac, Coolio, Thug Law) and rockers such as Rancid and the Offspring (he was the Huntington Beach band’s touring keyboardist 2003-05).
